Interpretive Summary: The plant virus genus Marafivirus includes maize rayado fino virus (MRFV), oat blue dwarf virus (OBDV), and Bermuda grass etched-line virus (BELV), which are the smallest known viruses that can multiply in both their plant host and insect vector. Both MRFV and OBDV can cause significant disease problems in their respective crop hosts. There are no satisfactory control measures for the viruses or their insect vectors. Desired information on these viruses is often dispersed in books and journal publications which may be difficult to access. In this chapter, a wide range of aspects of this virus group is covered, including history, electronic images of the virus, genome properties, biological properties, and disease information. The information in this chapter will serve as a valuable reference for scientists and will lead to the development of novel technologies for plant virus disease control.

Technical Abstract: Not needed for book chapter.
