Technical Abstract: A new type of fluids with oxidative stabilities and pour points comparable to commercial synthetic lubricant basestocks has been prepared by reaction of epoxidized soybean oil with Guerbet alcohols. Preparation, viscosities, viscosity indices and pour points of two different types of products, 0%- and 100%-transesterified products, will be discussed. Acetylation of resulting hydroxy groups in the products has improved their pour points and viscosity indices. Oxidative stabilities of two selected products have been evaluated by a modified Penn State micro-oxidation test and the results are compared with two synthetic lubricant base oils, PAO4 and adipate.
