Technical Abstract: "Vegetable Oil-Based Base Stocks" is a study of a series of vegetable oils selected for potential use as base fluids for industrial and automotive applications. Their thermal-oxidative stabilities and low-temperature properties are evaluated. Effects of diluents and additives on selected vegetable oils are examined as approaches to meeting industrial specifications for hydraulic fluids. A statistical approach is made to explore the effect of vegetable-oil structures on their physical and chemical properties.
