Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Germplasm resources for the improvement of sugar beet and other Beta spp. cultivated crops are held in germplasm collections and gene banks worldwide. Characterization and deployment of these resources into crop types is an enormous task considering the thousands of Beta accessions available. Molecular tools may help in the characterization of these resources. It is suggested that both molecular phenotyping as well as molecular genotyping will assist breeders deploy the most useful germplasm more efficiently.
