Interpretive Summary: The Uniform Winter Oat Yield Nursery(UWOYN) is a cooperative effort of the USDA-ARS and various state Agricultural Experiment Stations to allow plant breeders to evaluate promising experimental cultivars for their agronomic performance in a wide variety of growing conditions. The choice of experimental design used to grow the nursery was made by the cooperator for each location and average performance values were submitted for inclusion in this report. Data reported from various stations included yield, test weight, head date, plant height, lodging, winter kill, crown rust, BYDV, leaf rust, stem rust, helminthosporium leaf spot, powdery mildew, phenotype, fall stand and spring stand. The combined Central and Southern Uniform Winter Oat Yield Nursery was grown at 14 stations in 10 states. There were 30 entries including 20 that were new in 2001-02 Nursery. The average yield over lines and stations was 79.8 bu/A with line average ranging from 21.9 bu/A to 139.9 bu/A. FL9708-P37 was the top yielding experimental line. When averaged over all locations, seven other lines yielded at levels not statistically different from FL9708-P37. The highest yielding location was Warsaw, VA, where the average of all entries was 139.9 bu/A. The best entry for test weight when averaged over all locations was NC97-8927N at 37.0 lb/bu. No other lines had average test weights that were not statistically different.
