New set of cdnas from 5th instar glassy-winged sharpshooters, homalodisca coagulata (say) (homoptera: cicadellidae). Entomological Society of America Annual Meeting.

Technical Abstract: Pierce's Disease is a threat to the U.S. grape industry. To better understand the biology of the primary vector of Pierce's disease, the Glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS) leafhopper, we generated CDNA libraries of the GWSS at the 5th instar, wing-pad stage. Over 9,600 sequences were generated from 5th instar GWSS, collected from a lemon grove in California. The CDNA population dynamics are discussed and the top ten contigs, with their putative functions are listed. Identification of genes critical to GWSS development may aid efforts to produce effective management strategies.
