Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Although efforts to characterize the phylogenetic relationship and population structure of plant pathogens using genetic markers have substantially increased in recent years, complementary efforts to archive the resulting data have been limited. As a consequence, it is often difficult to compare the available data for a given pathogen from multiple laboratories. The main goal of this project is to develop a searchable, internet-based database that links the genotypes and phenotypes of important plant pathogens at both the species and population levels. Multiple search tools will be incorporated to allow visualization of the temporal, spatial, and evolutionary dynamics of pathogen populations. The database will also expedite the identification of newly isolated pathogens by those researchers who have limited experience in taxonomy or by regulatory agency scientists who must quickly assess the potential threat of newly isolated strains.
