Technical Abstract: Genes identified from cDNA libraries made to the glassy-winged sharpshooter, GWSS, (Homalodisca coagulata) are now becoming available through public databases, and as annotated datasets in electronic format from the U.S. Horticultural Research Laboratory, Ft. Pierce, FL. The identification of GWSS genes and proteins related to stress and other environmental conditions are identified using putative amino acid sequence comparisons to known genes and proteins previously identified from other insects and organisms. The ability to rapidly compare and identify these proteins that are linked to critical biological pathways within GWSS, are paramount to the understanding and development of new methods of management for use to reduce GWSS and the spread of Pierce's Disease in grapes and other crops.
