Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The adrenal glands are a set of paired organs located beside the kidneys. They are comprised of a cortex, the outer layer, and the medulla, the inner portion. The adrenal cortex is comprised of three layers and produces glucocorticosteroids and mineralocorticoids. The adrenal medulla is a modified ganglion and upon stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system produces epinephrine and norepinephrine.
