Interpretive Summary: The Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) has released an easily searchable version of the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Rel. 18 (SR18) for use on personal computers using the Windows® Operating System. This product is available for download, at no cost, from the NDL Web site at www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp. This search application allows users to access data for any of the approximately 7100 food items in SR18. Users can custom modify portion sizes to obtain reports of the level of nutrients in the user-specified portion of a food item. Data are available for all food components disseminated in SR18. The current SR release contains data up to 136 components. The Windows® search application was developed by the Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with HealtheTech, Inc. of Golden, Colorado. This product enables investigators, health professionals, academics and students to have full access to all of the high quality food composition data contained in SR18 without being connected to the Internet.

Technical Abstract: The Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) has released an easily searchable version of the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Rel. 18 (SR18) for use on personal computers using the Windows® Operating System, Windows® 98SE and above. This product is available for download, at no cost, from the NDL Web site at www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp. This search application originally blended SR15 with custom search software developed through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with HealtheTech, Inc., of Golden, Colorado. The software package, as modified for SR18, gives access to all food components for the approximately 7100 food items disseminated in SR18. A given food item may contain data for up 136 food components. Using this search application, users can custom modify any portion size disseminated with an SR18 food item, obtaining printable reports of nutrient levels in the user-specified portion. This software enables investigators, health professionals, academics, students, and the general public to have full access to all nutrient data in the latest version of the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference on their own personal computers without the necessity of being connected to the Internet.
