Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The subject of this report will attempt to tie in several aspects of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) and its most recent incursion into the camelid family, namely llamas and alpacas. We have known that both llamas and alpacas are susceptible to BVDV infections for over 20 years. In some cases, the animals demonstrated disease symptoms associated with BVDV such as diarrhea, ill thrift, respiratory distress and abortion. More recent reports indicate that we may also be describing BVDV in utero exposure, resulting in immune tolerant crias. |
