Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Secreted digestive lipases have been reported to be virulence factors in fungal pathogens. Here, we report the identification of a putative secreted digestive lipase from larval Hessian fly. Analysis by quantitative real-time PCR of temporal and spatial mRNA levels indicates the lipase is expressed in salivary glands of feeding larvae. The role of the lipase in the Hessian fly/wheat interaction is currently being revealed.
