Interpretive Summary: Bird cherry-oat aphid (BCOA) is one of the most common aphid pests of wheat worldwide, and resistant lines are needed as alternatives to chemical control. Several entries of wheat were evaluated against BCOA in a growth chamber test. The number of nymphs deposited by winged BCOA on seedlings in the first 24 hours of infestation did not differ among entries. The total number of BCOA on Halt wheat 13 days after infestation was comparable to that on N1186 triticale, the resistant check, and much lower compared to Arapahoe wheat, the susceptible check. Gandum-i-Fasai wheat supported lower BCOA populations than Arapahoe, but BCOA populations on Gandum-i-Fasai were greater than on Halt and N1186. The number of BCOA on TAM 107 wheat did not differ from that on Arapahoe and Gandum-i-Fasai, but was greater than that on Halt and N1186.
