Technical Abstract: Weeds are often the most common and costly pests in vegetable production, especially in organic production systems. Weeds that germinate during cover cropping and produce seeds will increase the weed seedbank and may increase production costs. This chapter discusses the effect of cultural practices on weed suppression during cover cropping, weed control following cover crop incorporation, weed control by cover crop mulches, and cover crops as weeds.
