Technical Abstract: Semiochemicals emitted by hosts of mosquitoes seeking a blood meal can lead to the attraction or avoidance of a host. Examination of the odor profiles from different hosts can lead to the identification of candidate kairomones and allomones affecting mosquitoes. This presentation will cover the chemical methodology used to identify these compounds emanating from humans, chickens, and the giraffe. The discussion of these odors will be made in the context of how the odors are similar or differ, and how these may be signaling mosquito species with differing host preferences.
