Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This chapter describes the ascomycete yeast genus Babjeviella and is to be published in The Yeasts, A Taxonomic Study, 5th edition. The genus Babjeviella has one known species, B. inositovora, which is represented by three strains, one each from the U.S., Canada and Russia. The genus is phylogenetically well isolated from other known yeast genera and has the unique property of being able to grow on myo-inositol as the sole source of carbon. The species has not yet been examined for novel biotechnological properties.
