Technical Abstract: This chapter describes the ascomycete yeast genus Kazachstania and is to be published in "The Yeasts, A Taxonomic Study, 5th edition." The genus Kazachstania is newly described and was constructed from certain species previously assigned to the genera Saccharomyces, Kluyveromyces and Arxozyma following a multigene phylogenetic analysis. The 32 known species are widely distributed throughout the world. Some species cause food spoilage whereas certain others are human and animal pathogens.
