Technical Abstract: Annexins, a protein superfamily, are critical in many important immuno-physiological processes. In this communication, we sequenced and characterized channel catfish orthologs to human annexin A1 and A6. Total RNA from tissues was extracted and cDNA libraries were constructed by the rapid amplification cDNA end (RACE) method. The gene-specific primers in conjunction with the RACE primers were used to PCR amplify 5’- and 3’-ends of the annexin A1 and A6 transcripts. Each annexin nucleic acid sequence had 5’-untranslated region (UTR), an open reading frame (ORF) and 3’-UTR. Annexin A1 and A6 ORF appears to encode 337 and 662 amino acid residues for A1 and A6, respectively. By comparison with the human counterparts, channel catfish annexin A1 and A6 also had four conserved about 70 amino-acid-residue repeats. These results provide important information for further elucidating channel catfish annexin functions.
