Interpretive Summary: Winterstar™ is a new strawberry variety released by the University of Florida and well adapted for mild winter production areas. Like the current commercial cultivar grown in Florida, ‘Strawberry Festival’, it has a steady yield and durable plant characteristics. Furthermore, it produces a large bright red fruit during the entire growing season, and it has had high acceptability rating by taste panels.

Technical Abstract: Winterstar™ strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) is a new strawberry cultivar released by the University of Florida. It is adapted to climates with mild winters. It produces large bright red fruit with low cull rate. Taste quality has been evaluated and it is consistently less sour and sweeter than the current commercial cultivar grown in Florida, ‘Strawberry Festival’. The plant has a compact growth habit, and produces early.
