Interpretive Summary: Rising fuel costs have driven development of alternative heat sources for poultry growers. Attic inlets are employed to pre-heat incoming ventilation air to reduce fuel usage. Attic temperatures are at least 10 °F warmer than the outside temperature at least 80% of the time and offers a source of pre-heated inlet air. Management of attic inlets is critical to maintaining structural soundness of poultry houses and attic inlets should be properly maintained to prevent warm moist air from migrating into the attic.
