Interpretive Summary: The stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans, is a pest of livestock, wild animals, pets and humans, with annual economic loss estimates in the US exceeding $1 billion. Because of its painful bite and pestiferous nature, control methods have been investigated for over a century. In this bibliography literature has been compiled from journals and other available resources, and selected articles have been annotated. This bibliography represents an update of literature published since 1980; literature from pre-1980 was included if copy could be obtained.

Technical Abstract: The stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans, is a cosmopolitan pest of livestock, wild animals, pets and humans. A major US cattle pest, annual economic loss estimates exceed $1 billion. Control methods have been investigated for over a century, with a major portion of the research focused on biology, ecology, genetics, physiology and vector competence. In this bibliography, scientists from the USDA, University of Nebraska and Mexico compiled literature from journals and other available resources, and selected articles have been annotated. This bibliography represents an update of literature published since 1980; literature from pre-1980 was included if copy could be obtained.
