Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Dactylis glomerata, or orchardgrass, and Phleum pratense, or timothy grass, are two of the top four forage grasses in the world. Both comprise polyploid complexes, and both are subjects of genetic improvement. Little information is available about the evolutionary history and genomic origins of these two species. This book chapter reviews what information is available, what molecular resources are available, and what the critical needs in germplasm representation and enhancement are.
