Interpretive Summary: Many pyraloids or snout moths are pests of crops, stored products, or of forests, and a major component of native habitats. This paper describes a new species of a snout moth from North Carolina based on the morphology and COI barcode molecular analysis. It is related to eleven other species in the United States that feed on the olive plant family. Information about this new species will be used by state extension entomologists and quarantine officials.

Technical Abstract: A new species of Palpita Hübner (Crambidae: Spilomelinae), P. maritima, sp.n., is described from maritime forests of the coastal plains of southeastern United States.
