Technical Abstract: Livestock genomics is leveraging the genomic information, methods, and technology spawned from the human genome sequencing project. This conference has addressed the following critical areas of research in livestock: genome evolution, genomic variation, epigenomics, food security, and sequencing approaches. This session will bring together all of the discussion points to synthesize and discuss some central themes for this research area in the future. The session will attempt to address how we as a collaborative community face these daunting challenges of animal well being, health, and improved production, together under the constraints of rising demands for animal protein production, limited funding, limited natural resources, and human contradiction in policy.
