Whole-genome sequencing of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Cubana strains isolated from agricultural sources. Genome Announcements. 2(1). pii: e01184-13. doi: 10.1128/genomeA.01184-13.

Interpretive Summary: Salmonella enterica is an important foodborne pathogen which can cause gastroenteritis in humans. Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Cubana is rarely associated with human illness in the U.S. and has been only sporadically associated with U.S. food animals and feed. To collect information on the genome structure of this serovar of Salmonella, the genomes of two Cubana strains were completely sequenced. The Salmonella Cubana strains were CVM42234, isolated from chick feed in 2012, and strain 76814, isolated from swine in 2004. The genome sizes are 4,975,046 and 4,936,251 base pairs, respectively.

Technical Abstract: We report draft genomes of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Cubana strain CVM42234 isolated from chick feed in 2012 and Salmonella Cubana strain 76814 isolated from swine in 2004. The genome sizes are 4,975,046 and 4,936,251 base pairs, respectively.
