Citation: Woodley, N.E. 2014. Two new species of Brachyodina Lindner from the Caribbean with a key to species of the genus from the region (Diptera, Stratiomyidae, Pachygastrinae). Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington. 116(4):429-440.

Interpretive Summary: Many species of soldier flies are beneficial to agriculture in that their larvae help to decompose plant material, dung, and decaying animal matter, although a few species are known to attack living plants, such as grass roots. This publication provides a review of a group of soldier flies from the Caribbean, providing a description of two new species, identification aids to all four known Caribbean species, and illustrations of diagnostic features. This work will enable scientists, quarantine workers such as those in APHIS, and others concerned with flies to identify and correctly name these insects.

Technical Abstract: Two new species of Brachyodina Lindner, B. janestanleyae sp. n., is described from the Dominican Republic, and B. caymanensis sp. n. from Grand Cayman Island. A key to the species known from the Caribbean islands is provided.
