Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Insect are an important group of pests affecting sugarcane production. Agricultural consultants play an important role is assisting sugarcane farmers to choose the most appropriated means of managing damaging infestations of insects in their crop. In this presentation, information will be presented on the recent change in genetic composition of the sugarcane aphid infesting sugarcane. In 2013, the sugarcane aphid apparently underwent a genetic change and currently is more pestiferous on sorghum that it is on sugarcane. Although the material presented in this presentation was obtained from literature review, it will provide agricultural consults insight into the current status of the insect, what might of happened to cause the change in genetic composition, and what they might expect from this insect in the future.
