Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) can induce a variety of neoplastic and immunodepressive diseases in several avian species. REV infection has recently been associated with several "new" issues of economic importance. Two issues addressed are (1) lymphomas induced in broiler breeders vaccinated with an REV-contaminated fowlpox vaccine and (2) maintenance of breeder flocks seronegative for REV for export. A new syndrome in broilers where the lesions contain reticuloendothelial cells and where REV has been falsely incriminated as the etiological agent is also presented.
