Technical Abstract: The most important potato gene-banks in the world began a formal association in 1990 to better serve the global effort to improve the potato crop through the use of germplasm. This group is called the Association of Potato Intergenebank Collaborators (APIC). Its participants are representatives of potato collections of Argentina, Ecuador, Germany, the International Potato Center, the Netherlands, Peru, Russia, United Kingdom and USA. Joint databases for passport and evaluation data on wild species of the potatoes have been developed. The database is comprised of 11,590 contributions consisting of 8,700 unique accessions from 195 species. Number of accession contributions and evaluation data [in brackets] is as follows: NRSP-6 (USA)=3,461 [25,751], BGRC (D-NL)=1,855 [5,553], GLKS (DEU)=1,154 [4,992], INTA (ARG)=1,351 [0], CPC (UK)=662 [294], VIR (RUS)=1,607 [0], CIP (PER)=1,500 [0]. A demonstration of the computer program will be given at the 1996 EAPR meeting.
