Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This book chapter provides comprehensive descriptions of the 8 species assigned to the yeast genus Myxozyma. Species of this genus are found worldwide in soils. All members of the genus produce large amounts of slimy extracellular polysaccharides in culture. This non-ascosporic genus is similar to the genus Lipomyces, which is also widely distributed in soils. In addition to the descriptions, this chapter describes laboratory methods for species identification.
