Technical Abstract: A comprehensive genetic linkage map of loci conditioning qualitative and quantitative disease resistance to different pathogens of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) can be useful to breeders and geneticists interested in developing multiple disease resistant germplasm. A selective mapping or interval mapping approach was used to identify QTL in a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population (Dorado x XAN 176) which conditioned disease resistance to bean golden mosaic virus (BGMV), common bacterial blight (CBB), web blight, and ashy stem blight. In addition to these QTL, RAPD markers linked to four major disease resistance genes, Co-2 for anthracnose, I and bc-3 for bean common mosaic virus, and Ur-5 for rust were mapped even though the genes may not have been segregating in the population. Repulsion linkages between QTL affecting BGMV and CBB resistance were observed on two separate linkage groups which support the negative phenotypic correlation (r = -0.23) observed between them. Recombination between these and other linked traits may be necessary to combine parental levels of resistance in newly developed multiple disease resistant germplasm.
