Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A versatile and easily constructed moving-air system is described for delivering known quantities of test volatiles to wind-tunnel bioassays. Volatile sources may be natural or synthetic, simple or complex. The fraction of each sample directed to the wind tunnel is controlled by a splitter. Four splitters converge into one air stream so that up to four samples can be bioassayed in any amounts, proportions, or order. The sample air stream can be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and GC. Example bioassay data are presented, using responses of Carpophilus humeralis to host-related chemicals.
