Technical Abstract: Avian leukosis is a disease complex of mature chickens consisting primarily of lymphoid leukosis and myeloid leukosis. These diseases cause economic loss from mortality and lost egg production. Although the virus has been largely eradicated from layer chickens, a new form of the virus, designated subgroup J, has recently become a problem in meat strain breeders. Some characteristics of the subgroup J virus are described and prospects for it control through eradication are discussed.
