Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The ignition quality of fuels for compression-ignition engines is indicated by the fuel cetane number. The traditional method of measuring the cetane number, burning the fuel in a special CFR engine of variable compression ratio, is time-consuming and expensive. In this paper, the authors present a method of predicting the cetane numbers of ester fuels based on their fatty acid composition as determined by gas chromatography.
