Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Five prospective sugarbeet germplasm releases with high sugar, smooth root characteristics were evaluated along with older smooth root releases and compared with commercial varieties. An increase in sucrose concentration was achieved in these smooth root lines relative to the older types, but still not at the level of commercial varieties. Smooth root scores for some of the new materials equals or exceeds the best of the older smooth root materials.
