Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: DNA sequence of the xerC gene within the tabtoxin biosynthetic gene cluster of Pseudomonas syringae (GenBank accession number AF521605). The predicted gene product of the P. syringae xerC gene is similar to phage integrase. The gene contains similarity to presumptive phage integrases in variety of bacterial genera, including Pseudomonas, Salmonella, and Actinobacillus (pfam=pfam00589, Phage_integrase). The xerC gene likely played a role in the horizontal transfer of the tabtoxin biosynthetic cluster and may play a role in the genetic instability of this pathogenicity island.
