Interpretive Summary: The efficacy of two insecticides in tarnished plant bugs (TPB) was evaluated in the laboratory in spray chamber bioassays. Vydate at 0.33 lb (AI)/acre and Intruder at 0.042, 0.056, 0.084 and 0.112 were applied to cotton terminals. Two adult TPB were placed on cotton terminals 30 min after spraying and held in ventilated cups and observed at 24 and 48h. At 24h mortality with Intruder at the high rate was only 35 percent. At the same time mortality with Vydate was 75 percent. At 48h mortality with Intruder at the high rate was 67 percent and mortality with Vydate was 88 percent.

Technical Abstract: Formulated insecticides were evaluated in the laboratory for toxicity to tarnished plant bugs. Spray chamber bioassay were conducted by applying insecticides to cotton terminals. Treatment consisted of Vydate applied at 0.33 lb (AI)/acre and Intruder at 0.042, 0.056, 0.084 and 0.0112 lb (AI)/acre. Each treatment included three replicates of 10 terminals per rep. Two adult TPB were placed in each cotton terminal 30 minutes after spraying and held in ventilated cups. Mortality was recorded at 24 and 48h posttreatment. At 24 and 48h Vydate had significant higher mortality than found in the treatments with Intruder. There was no significant differences in mortality with Intruder applied at the three highest rates at 24 and 48h.
