Interpretive Summary: Ascochyta blight is a serious disease in chickpea which has the potential to cause 100% yield loss. Hence there should be substantial efforts to identify genes for resistance to blight. In an earlier attempt, genetic studies had been performed and the genes for resistance have been located in the chickpea geneome. In our study, we determined expression levels of two different genes upon ascochyta infection.

Technical Abstract: Differential display reverse transcription (DDRT) technique was deployed to study the differential expression pattern of the genes upon asccohyta infection in chickpea. We identified two genes which were differentially expressed between the control and infected plants. We have, partially, sequenced those genes, partially, and submitted the sequences to Genbank to make them available to the chickpea research community. This is the first report of efforts to study the blight resistance genes using DDRT technique.
