Technical Abstract: A role for diet-derived phytochemicals in prevention of various forms of cancers including breast and prostate cancer have been suggested. However, the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of phytochemicals remain largely unclear. We hypothesize that phytochemicals can exert effects on multiple cellular pathways. We reason that an effect on the apoptosis pathways may contribute to cancer preventive effects of phytochemicals. Our current efforts focus on identifying molecular targets for phytochemicals within the apoptosis pathway that may support our hypothesis.
