Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Variability of fiber properties makes it difficult to determine relationships among fiber properties. If length and strength were held constant over a range of environments then the relationships among other propeties could be determined. Six cultivars were compared across 8 planting dates using HVI and AFIS fiber properties. Five of the planting dates were compared for yarn quality. Fiber UHM, UI, and AFIS mean length for most cultivars were not significantly different across planting dates. Micronaire increased with lateness of planting date. In most cultivars perimeter increased, short fiber content decreased and nep numbers decreased with lateness of planting. Genotype differences in fiber and yarn properties within a planting date were perpetuated across planting dates.
