Citation: Tabanca, N., Demirci, B., Kirimer, N., Can Baser, K., Bedir, E., Khan, I.A., Wedge, D.E. 2005. Gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis of essential oils from pimpinella aurea, pimpinella corymbosa, pimpinella peregrina and pimpinella puberula gathered from eastern and southern turkey. Journal of Chromatography A. 1097:192-198.

Interpretive Summary: Essential oils from different plant tissue of Pimpinella aurea, P. corymbosa , P. peregrina and P. puberula collected from Turkey were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques. A total of 141 different compounds were identified, and significant qualitative and quantitative differences were observed among the samples.

Technical Abstract: Essential oils from fruits, aerial parts without fruits and roots of Pimpinella aurea DC, P. corymbosa Boiss., P. peregrina L. were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques. Fruits and aerial parts of P. puberula (DC) Boiss were also evaluated. A total of 140 different compounds were identified, and significant qualitative and quantitative differences were observed among the samples. The essential oil composition of fruits and aerial parts of P. aurea, P. corymbosa, P. peregrina were dominated by a variety of sesquiterpenes such as B-caryophyllene, B-bisabolene, trans-'B-bergamotene and aurean. Phenylpropanoids showed a higher proportion in the root oils of P. aurea, P. corymbosa, P. peregrina compared with the oils of their fruits and aerial part. P. puberula profile consisted of monoterpenes in high concentration with limonene and methyl eugenol.
