Interpretive Summary: Honey bees are not native to the Americas, so their presence on national wildlife and waterfowl refuges pose management concerns for the USFWS. To better inform those management decisions, this popular article reviews evidence that bears on perspectives of honey bees as pollinators of native versus weedy alien plants, resource competitors with native bees for pollen and nectar, and habitat competitors with cavity-nesting birds for tree hollows.
