Technical Abstract: A comprehensive method for Vitamin D analysis has been developed by using the best aspects of currently available published methods. The comprehensive method can be applied to a wide range of food samples including dry breakfast cereal, diet supplement drinks, powdered infant formula, cheese and others. Results by ultraviolet detection are compared to those obtained using atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry in selected ion monitoring mode. Isotope-labeled Vitamin D3 has been compared to normal Vitamin D2 as an internal standard. Data can be used to provide nutritional information to consumers via the National Nutrient Databank.
