Interpretive Summary: Modern engineering analysis of surface irrigation is founded on unsteady simulation models. WinSRFR is the new generation of software developed by the Agricultural Research Service for analysis of surface irrigation systems. It combines the simulation capabilities of the earlier SRFR program with evaluation, design, and operational tools. WinSRFR was developed with input from NRCS and is being distributed to its field offices. This paper provides a brief overview of the program and illustrates its use. NRCS personnel, irrigation specialists, extension agents, consultants, and farmers should find this information of interest.

Technical Abstract: In 2006, the U.S. Arid Land Agricultural Research Center-ALARC released to NRCS and to the general public the surface irrigation software package WinSRFR V.1.0. WinSRFR is the successor to the SRFR, BORDER, and BASIN programs developed by the former USDA-ARS U.S. Water Conservation Laboratory. WinSRFR integrates those legacy applications into a single Windows application and enhances their functionality. This paper provides an overview of WinSRFR and provides a brief example of its use.
