Interpretive Summary: “Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus” is associated with citrus Huanglongbing (HLB, yellow shoot disease, also known as citrus greening disease). HLB is currently threatening the US citrus industry. In 2012, an HLB bacterium was detected in a lemon tree in California. Although the tree was immediately destroyed and California remains HLB free, it is important to collect as much information as possible about the bacterium for future HLB control. This study sequenced the bacterial whole genome. The sequence will provide a solid foundation for further genome-wide and comprehensive analyses of this California HLB bacterium.

Technical Abstract: The draft genome sequence of “Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus” strain HHCA, collected from a lemon tree in California, USA, is reported. The HHCA strain has a genome size of 1,118,244 bp, with G+C content of 36.6%. The HHCA genome encodes 1,191 predicted open reading frames and 51 RNA genes.
