Interpretive Summary: The full genome of a Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV) isolate recently detected in the U.S. is presented. First reported from tomatoes in Mexico in 2009, ToMMV was detected in tomatoes in Florida in 2010 and again in 2012. Several partial sequences of similar viruses are publicly available and suggest that ToMMV may be more widespread than currently reported. The ToMMV full genome sequence presented will enable further ecological and epidemiological studies, and also the development of additional diagnostic tests.

Technical Abstract: Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV) was first identified in the U.S. in tomatoes in Florida in 2010. This report provides the first full genome sequence of a U.S. ToMMV isolate from 2010. The full genome sequence of this emerging virus will enable research scientists to develop additional specific diagnostic tests for ToMMV. The sequence will also facilitate additional surveys, and further ecological and epidemiological studies of this emerging virus, by regulatory scientists.
