Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Preliminary results are presented from a study designed to evaluate the effects of certain environmental stresses on identification and expression of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with several traits in maize. Experimental materials were derived from a set of RI lines developed from the maize single cross, B73 x Mo17, which were then backcrossed to the parental lines. Backcross progenies were evaluated in several field environments with a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of soil moisture levels, soil nitrogen levels, and planting densities. Initial evaluations from two locations in one year showed that expression of QTLs associated with grain yield differed under different stress regimes. However, no pattern associated with specific stress combinations was noted in the preliminary results.
