Interpretive Summary: The common malaria mosquito, Anopheles quadrimaculatus, occurs over a wide range extending from southeastern Canada, throughout the eastern half of the United States, and into northeastern Mexico. Previously, it was thought to be a single species, however, researchers at the USDA's Center for Medical, Agricultral and Veterinary Entomology in Gainesville, Florida have shown that it is actually a group of five very similar species. During the last 90 years, references to this mosquito have been published in many different scientific journals. The report presented here is a bibliography that provides a single reference source for the 1,900 documented studies of the An. quadrimaculatus group of mosquitoes. It includes references on behavior, physiology, ecology, identification, and the geographic distribution of the mosquitoes. The bibliography provides a ready source of information for people involved in research, mosquito control, studies of vector-borne disease, and other public health problems associated with mosquitoes in the Anopheles quadrimaculatus complex.

Technical Abstract: An extensive list of over 1,900 citations referring to Anopheles quadrimaculatus Say sensu lato is provided. References of a synonym, An. annulimanus van der Wulp, are also included.
