Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Farmers desire information systems to help them manage their farms. Ag industry and public research today are being called upon more and more to produce these systems. High level requirements for such a system include that it should consume little time to use, not be difficult to learn, integrate economics, be locally configurable, produce custom reports - including maps, have open architecture and be user integrable with other systems and data. To meet some of these objectives on an ambitious cost and schedule plan, a highly user-configurable Windows 95-based production records and inventory system was created which is entitled FarmWin 97. The system allows users to record, store and summarize most farm records that occur on the farm. The names, attributes, units, input data and summary reports are customizable by the user. Using the commercial report generator, the user can do further numerical processing of data. Maps and images can be viewed from the FarmWin desktop by configuring to the users' map or image system. Financial data is integrated through QIF import from Microsoft Money or Quicken. Other decision aid programs can be launched from the FarmWin desktop. FarmWin 97 represents a high user configurable system of farm records that was designed to meet the needs of farmers, researchers and industry.
