Technical Abstract: Fluvalinate and amitraz resistance have been documented for the parasitic bee mite, Varroa jacobsoni. Research conducted at the USDA in Weslaco has shown that the pesticide coumaphos is effective in controlling these resistant mites. Efforts are currently underway to devise a resistance management plan for varroa control, using theories and practices from resistance management plans for other arthropods.
